I am currently in my second year of university studying computer science where I learn about computer systems and computer languages at an advanced level.
1. Orebro University, Sweden
2. Hanyang University, South Korea
3. Carlos III University, Spain
Ever since I was a little kid, my father used to tell me and my siblings about his stories abroad in countries like Switzerland, France, Spain, and many more. Therefore, I want to study at Orebro University in Sweden because it is ranked in the top 2 percent of the world’s universities by Times Higher Education which makes it more appealing to study here. In addition, Scandinavia is a part of the world I would love to live in. Sweden is very quiet and peaceful but bursting with culture. The same goes for the small town, Orebro. There is a medieval castle located within the city of Orebro known as the ‘Orebro Castle’ which is more than 700 years old, which also has a lake and a river not too far from it. To study and live in Orebro would be a great opportunity for me to see what the university can offer me and what the city and country can offer me. I have already talked to my family about the possibility of me studying abroad for a whole year and they’re willing to support me if I have any problems, such as financially helping me if I am running low on funds.
Studying abroad will give me the chance to develop myself as a person. Being in a different country means that I would be in many different situations that I would have to face on my own and in tackling these situations, I will be able to discover my strengths and weaknesses. The fact that I must do a lot on my own, will improve my independence and confidence. Being outside my comfort zone would also benefit me by making me more aware of my own being and the world around me. If I can successfully put myself out there and take care of myself, I think I will achieve my goal of developing as a person and becoming more independent.
The study abroad placement would also benefit me from an academic viewpoint. Being in a foreign country would allow me to build an international professional network which will help me in the future when I am looking for a job in the international setting. Also, studying abroad will help me stand out more in future job interviews as employers often look for people who are independent and able to adapt to certain situations. In addition, studying abroad would benefit me because it allows me to experience education in a totally new setting. I find this to be very appealing as it would expose me to different approaches to education, helping me develop skills to write my thesis paper at the end and deal with different forms of education.
I chose Orebro University as my number one choice because the modules that they offer are very similar to the modules that I am currently studying. As I am studying computer science, modules such as ‘Computer Graphics’ appeal to me a lot because I am currently studying the basics of the module such as learning how to make an animation in OpenGL. I am taught how to construct different objects and how the different types of lighting, material and textures can help affect the object and the animation. Another module that I am interested in studying at Orebro University is the ‘Java for Interface and Networks’ module. As I am currently studying ‘Data Structures and Algorithms with Java’, where I am learning the different Abstract Data Types such as stacks and queues that I can used when implementing a software. I believe that studying the ‘Java for Interface and Networks’ module would help give me much more of an in-depth knowledge with the Java programming language.
To conclude, I would really be grateful for the opportunity to study abroad. I am ready to put myself out there and improve my personal and academic skills. My preferred method of contact would be by email.
